Granite Geek: Google Map “Street View” come to southern New Hampshire

Steve C · 1 year agoLooking at where I was in Manchester an hour ago, it's clear the pictures are "old", in the sense of green leaves on trees... so taken no later than last September. Looking at the Elm & Granite intersection, I can't make out what's on the Verizon Center sign, but traffic is light, parking lots are starting to be occupied, and it's full daylight and partly cloudy, so I'm guessing early morning in summertime, before "rush hour". This suggests that the pictures have been "in the can" for a while, and Google is backlogged in getting them properly tagged (whatever it is they do to move from camera to database) and synch'ed to the maps. I wonder if some of our more rural roads in Amherst/Mont Vernon are in pipeline?

Rusty · 1 year agoWhen I drove cross country to a funeral last summer I saw several of the Google cars with the camera on a short pole on the roof. This was on Interstates in the middle of nowhere like Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. Wonder where they were off to, or back from?

Dave Brooks · 1 year agoHow did you know they were Google cars - just from the camera setup?

Rusty · 1 year agoi think they had 'Google' signs or stickers on the cars. It must have been something like that, there was no doubt who and what they were when i saw them.
