All things change, and not always for the better.

There are more reasons for reading papers/mags online than just convenience for some of us. Now I read online for another reason. My eyesight is not as good as it once was and I can control the print size of what I read. Even with a magnifying glass, reading print is not always comfortable. And my 25 in. flat screen monitor is the ultimate in luxury, thanks to a son's gift.

I, for one, would be unable to afford even the least number of them had I to pay for them. I did pay for the NYT online for a period of time until they stopped requiring payment to read most of their articles. It was still cheaper than had I paid for the printed version.

Re: End of the newsstand

We read the same story with the same sense of the beginning of the end of the era. Both my husband and I have fond memories of running to Out of Town to buy copies of the first article we had published in magazines. We could have gotten them somewhere else, but it was such a thrill to be in Harvard Square seeing our writing with all those publications from around the world. But here I am, writing on a blog and not a piece of paper. The way it is and the way of the future.
