I have no idea how likely this is to come to fruition - here’s the story I saw, via Slashdot - but it wouldn’t be easy to turn Isaac Asimov’s “Foundation” series into a bunch of long movies, a la “Lord of the Rings”

I've had the same experience rereading some of the SciFi I read as a kid. Too much pontificating - too little character development. I'm in a local SciFi group and character development vs plot is an ongoing argument. If I don't find characters engaging pretty hard to get involved in the story.
